One of the things I love most about being a wedding photographer is the amazing people I get to meet and the beautiful places I get to visit. Capturing all this magic and feeling lucky to call this my job is truly special.
I met Lauren in 2021 at her sister Leah’s wedding in Zürich, where I was the wedding photographer. It was a lovely and heartfelt day with the kindest people. I remember Lauren telling me she wanted me to be her wedding photographer when she got married. Since Lauren is a photographer herself, it made me a bit nervous, and I told her she should wait to see the photos from her sister’s wedding before deciding if she wanted me as her photographer.
Fast forward two years, Lauren reached out to tell me she was engaged and wanted me to be her wedding photographer. She even chose their wedding date based on my availability, which made me feel incredibly honored.
One year later, I stepped onto a plane to Virginia and traveled to a small town called Irvington to photograph Lauren and Yannick’s wedding. It truly felt like coming home, seeing Leah and her husband Polo again, along with Lauren and Leah’s parents, welcoming me with open arms. Lauren had booked the most wonderful Airbnb for me, close to the wedding venue.
The wedding began the evening before with a welcome party at Lauren’s parents’ house, and of course, we found a moment for a short engagement session. It was the perfect way to kick off the wedding weekend.
On the wedding day, we started at Lauren’s parents’ house for the getting-ready moments. I photographed all the beautiful details and Lauren getting into her dress. Before heading to the wedding venue, we took a few family portraits.
The wedding was held at The Tides Inn, a wonderful venue close to the water and surrounded by nature. It’s a place where you instantly feel relaxed. Each part of the wedding day took place at a different location, which added variety. Yannick’s getting-ready moments were at The Tides Inn, and their first look took place nearby. It was such a heartfelt moment.
The entire day was filled with so much joy and perfectly organized by Lauren from Elle & Co Wedding Planning. Some of my favorite moments were just before the ceremony, when Lauren’s father was waiting to walk her down the aisle. He stood there with open arms as Lauren arrived in a golf cart. Another highlight was after the ceremony, during the congratulations. It was beautiful to see the connection between the couple and their family, and how happy everyone was for them, celebrating the love they had found. It’s these in-between moments, when people are simply being themselves, that I love to capture most, and this wedding was full of them.
Beyond the stunning details and arrangements by The Tides Inn and Elle & Co, which went above and beyond, the true meaning of a wedding is celebrating love. That’s exactly what this wedding was all about.
